Sisters in the Kingdom

July 18, 2018 Clancy McKenna
Here's the twenty-five sisters who went on the kayak trip.

Here's the kayak patch and charm Susan and Bonnie included in each gift bag. These sisters totally rocked this trip!

Perhaps the title should be, "Half of a Sister Trip is Better Than None?" This is the first time I became ill while on a Sisters On The Fly trip, so that was a new experience. I developed a chest cold/cough that knocked the stuffings out of me in a hurry. So, though it broke my heart, on Saturday morning I packed up and came home early. But, I was there for the beginning of the trip, I met and spoke to some very interesting Sisters, and Wednesday through Friday, I very much enjoyed.

I wanted post the photos I took, we had a few gorgeous days, perfect weather in a beautiful place. A spectacular kayak trip past beaver dams and... well, let me post these pix.

...for a week of wide open spaces. It's the medicine I need to take every month that makes it possible for me to live in NYC.

And then, I arrived here! A gorgeous waterfront site, complete with a sweet little loon family!

Here's a link to one minute of Morning on Spectacle Pond.

Yes, your volume is up all the way. It's just that quiet here. And completely gorgeous.

With a waterfront site, I had kayaking sisters like Laurie, Bonnie, and Kim cruise by for a quick hello.

I reclined in my screen house to read about the park, and guess what happened?

Susan and Bonnie reserved a large flat campsite for our meeting spot, and our evening campfires. Sorry I didn't get any good photos.

Karin and Charmaine, two new sisters met at this event and discovered that they have sequential five-digit numbers. I'm not sure who the big sister is though.

There was a sweet young man who helped those of us who needed help, get in and out of the Kayaks and get launched without getting wet.

Karin was really thrilled to be on her first kayak trip. And we found out that Charmaine had the best laugh of all of us when she launched, and when she paddled herself up a little cul-de-sac. One of the constants I've found on Sister trips is that we often laugh together until it hurts.

Crossing the lake against a headwind in the third hour of the trip was difficult for us new to kayaking. Still, I would not have missed it. The river and the weather was glorious.

Laurie came up with a cool craft idea, and she spent the winter gathering the supplies to make custom clipboards. I've hung mine in the kitchen for my camping checklists.

Friday morning, Bonnie and Susan scheduled a progressive breakfast, and we visited a number of sisters sites, and saw their trailers. I hung out at "Poppy," Laurie's red Micro Minnie.  I visited "The Hobbit," Tammy Cross's sweet little handmade trailer. Obviously, she is an expert woodworker. I saw Kim's Motorhome, "Gypsy," Which made my heart sing, former motorhome owner that I am. I was camped down the hill from Joanne's 59 Shasta, "I Go Where I'm Towed," and I caught up with her before the morning was over.

After Thursday's kayaking trip, I hurt my hip on the seatbelt end in my rental van, so I was coming down with a cold and gimping around on my walking sticks Friday morning. Bummed to have missed out on seeing Suzie Q's handmade teardrop, and the rest of the portable homes my sisters set up as they travel. I trust that I will catch up with them somewhere down the road.

Here's lookin' at you, kid.

So indeed, half of a Sister trip is better than none!
