Over The Falls!

October 5, 2018 Clancy McKenna

This photo is misty due to the spray getting on my iPhone lens. But I still had to use it.

There’s The Rainbow Bridge, and a rainbow!

Debbi Clemons and her crew created a wonderful experience for us at Niagara Falls and environs. I think her elves were Kim Watson, Sue Palmer, Heather and Peg Thompson, Deb Martin, Liz Anne Walczak , Kathy Whittaker, and Katie Harvey, but we all know there were lots of other helpers. I want to open this post by expressing my gratitude to everyone who worked on this event, as we all had a great time! Thank you sisters!

It’s an amazing place! Once again, I have no adequate words to describe how I feel here.

We had perfect weather, and plenty of sunshine to make rainbows everywhere.

Here’s some photos from our Thursday night meet-n-greet at the KOA Rec Hall. Sisters flew in from Oregon, drove and flew in from all over the country: CA, MT, IN, CO, IL, VT, PA, MI, GA, TX, WV, IN, OH, MS, VA, and of course, all over New York State. Debbie can correct me, but I think there were fifty-three sisters at the event from 16 states.

Friday was our Over (to) the Falls day. We carpooled to Whirlpool State Park, to get our trolley tickets, had a group photo taken by the falls. Then, we had a picnic lunch prepared by the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute on Liz’s hilarious tables under the pavilion. After lunch it was time for Maid Of The Mist. You will see photos of some very wet, very Blue Sisters!

The stunning views from down here is the reason so many millions of people are willing to get soaked.

The boat ride was exhilarating. Might have been those hundreds of thousands of positive ions we were bombarded with each second, or maybe just getting soaked with our sisters. Not sure.

We got really wet, but it was SO much fun!

It was pretty fun up at the top of the falls also. Now some of the sisters ran off to The Cave of the Winds, some really tried to go over the falls by Zip-Lining, and a bunch of folks went to see what they could see at the Canadian Side. And then it was time for a pot luck dinner and a campfire. Note the clever quilt design, showing off those patches!

Notice the patches being displayed on this fireside cozy quilt?

We went over to The Falls on Friday because weekends get so crowded. Really smart move on the part of Debbi and her crew. So, on Saturday, we were free to do things in small groups, and that worked out just fine. Again, some sisters went to Canada, Zip Line, Whirlpool Cable Car, Niagara Adventure Theater, and I don’t know what all else. Perhaps they’ll chime in on this story in the comments section below. I went to the theater to see the Niagara Falls documentary. It was subtitled in Chinese, which Elvira helpfully translated for us.

Here is the original Maid Of The Mist. She is not a boat full of blue people. She went over the falls in her canoe.

Subtitles say: “If you were not so cheap, and took helicopter ride over falls, you see this. Thank you very much.”

Liz got very excited when she found her pom pom!

We did a little shopping and had some hijinks along the way back to the campground.

We took the elevator down to see the remains of the old Schoellkopf Power Station right on the river. June 7th, 1956 two thirds of this station was destroyed by a series of rockslides. Forty workers were down in the gorge at the time, but only one did not survive. This area is also where the Maid of the Mist boats are pulled out of the water and stored for the winter months.

Cake design was hilarious and exactly right! (Tasted pretty good too!)

Here’s Sue Palmer thanking Debbi.

And the gift basket of flowers for our Flowerdigger to happily plant in her yard.

This was a short but sweet event for all of us who attended, and again, we offer thanks to our Western New York Sisters for showing us around and showing us such a good time. We had more fun than anyone!

I guess Christine isn’t really what you’d call a morning person. Or maybe she was just cranky because we were leaving to travel home. Always bittersweet to leave my sisters! ;-)

For my friends who are always asking where I am in these posts, Here’s a couple shots thanks to Danielle Thompson. See? I was really there! Really!
